Here are some reviews of various media I've seen lately.

All of the new Doctor Who

I'm finally up-to-date with Doctor Who -- I figured I should be before I got back to the UK.

Anyway, I liked it (although I prefer the Russell T Davies seasons) and I guess the eleventh doctor isn't so bad, although David Tennant is my preferred doctor of the recent three.

*All the "twists" are really obvious.
*The eleventh Doctor seems more like Mork from Mork and Mindy than any of the previous ones.
*I hope to see more of The Silence, particularly the tall anus-mouthed aliens that seem to make up most of the order. The scenes where characters look down at their hands and see the tallies, the audience having never seen anything either, is handled really well.
*More of The Master too.
*Daleks and Cybermen still aren't scary.
*Could Amy and Rory, particularly Rory, please stop dying all the time?
*I really liked River Song at first, until she got much younger and immature. Probably around "Let's Kill Hitler".
*I'd like to see more of the Doctor that released a thief from handcuffs in Planet of the Dead than, say, the Doctor who urges a father to love his alien kid in Night Terrors or the clone urged to pretend he's the real thing to the original's son in The Rebel Flesh. Morals seem a little off.
*I started noticing a pattern of the Doctor giving "heart-warming" speeches to silly little humans about how they have to hang in there and never give up. Maybe that's always been there and I watched too many in quick succession.
*Having written the above, I started wondering what a crossover with Madoka Magica would look like.
*There's no point wondering about a Sherlock crossover, because they're already the same basic character anyway.
*The Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone was probably the scariest episodes I've seen.
*I liked The Lodger the best though, apart from a scene where The Doctor takes over the guy's job and no one cares because the Doctor is Wonderful. All I could hear was the sound of the creative team fapping.
*Here's a thought: In the final episode of the season, the Doctor tells River Song to look into his eyes. This is a callback to when he first meets her and she sees him for the last time... so what does she say to him then? I presumed she said his name and she knew because she's his wife, but the final episode suggests that something else could have been said and death cheated. Just a thought, really.

First four or so episodes of Sayonara, Zetsubou-sensei.

This is really patchy. Sometimes funny, sometimes horrible and predictable. Love the anime style though. I don't know if I'll keep watching this, what with My Little Pony and Sherlock currently airing.

Speaking of which...

First episode of Sherlock 2012

I don't like this as much as the previous Sherlock series, but I don't know why. Maybe it's because it doesn't have as much interaction between Sherlock and Watson? I still liked it though.

Tintin

There was a curious mixture of ultra-realism and complete bullshittery. For example, Tintin justifies how he can take down henchman while being just a teenager by using accurate martial arts moves, and all the contents of the plane are subject to accurate zero gravity when it goes into freefall. And then Haddock belches into the plane's tank to keep it going when it's empty, then gets pulled into the propeller by his parachute and survives. There's also the awkward problem of Haddock's alcoholism being treated as a cute source of family comedy. Overall, I liked it, but I think a better script editor would have helped.

I'm now applying for jobs in Britain. Does anyone have an address they could lend me as I don't have a flat yet? You'll almost certainly never get anything in the post, but I can't put my Tokyo address on there. Thanks if you can help.

Finally, I think I might need a new mod or co-mod for Weiss Day. It's almost certain I will get a flat and internet as soon as I arrive in Britain, but... maybe not, you know? Let me know.
If you don't have an account you can create one now.
